There are many different types of mattresses out there and choosing one that is perfect for you can be a daunting task. We can help you out in that by explaining the mechanism and benefit of these types.
The most popular and widely used mattresses are innerspring, foam and latex.
Innerspring
The most popular type of bedding uses the support of tempered steel coils in a variety of configurations. An innerspring mattress comes with a strong border wire that is attached to the perimeter of the coils. The border wire supports the coils which help to retain shape and reduce sagging. The edge features specially shaped springs or foam to support the sleep surface right to the edge and this eliminates ‘rollout’ and edge breakdown. Usually there are layers of upholstery which provide insulation and cushioning between your body and the spring unit. The result of this basic approach, coupled with state-of-the-art technology, is a complete range of comfort choices. 'Coil Count' determines the performance of a mattress here. The coil count and wire thickness (or gauge) will determine how much support the innerspring offers, and its ability to evenly distribute weight. You have a choice between open coil, offset coil, pocket coil and continuous coil.
Serta's coil count and wire gauge offer great support and comfort. Serta’s unique innerspring features rows of wire coils that run from head to toe along the line of the body. As the coil rows run head-to-toe, they respond to each sleeper individually and assist in reducing partner movement. Free Flex™ Innerspring, Continuous Support™ Innerspring and Verticoil Premier™ Innerspring are superb for innerspring comfort and support.
There is also King Koil which is the only innerspring mattress collection endorsed by The Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER). Perfect Contour Collection features mattresses in which only the finest innerspring systems have been used. You can pick between an open coil innerspring or encased coil innerspring. King Koil Spine Support Collection uses premium innerspring construction making it highly comfortable.
Foam
Solid foam mattresses also offer a wide choice of "feels." They can be made of a solid core or of several layers of different types of foam laminated together. Advanced technology in polyurethane foams, refinements to traditional latex and the new visco-elastic ("memory") foams have added to the choice of comfort, support and performance. Memory foam is open-cell foam that responds to the weight and heat of your body and relieves pressure. It is available in many thicknesses, densities, and different levels of softness and firmness.
Tempur-Pedic™ was the pioneer in this memory foam technology. Many other companies have followed suit and copied the material under the same generic name. Tempur material is quite possibly the best out there. It is based on NASA's research to develop a material to relieve the tremendous g-forces experienced by astronauts. Tempur-Pedic™ tapped into this technology to bring about a revolutionary sleep surface. The range of collection varies from TEMPUR® to TEMPUR® HD to TEMPUR-Cloud® which combines support with luxury and comfort.
Latex
It is inherently natural, breathable, hypoallergenic, anti-microbial and dust-mite resistant. It removes body moisture, and helps you to feel warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Latex is defined as a milky white liquid composed of rubber particles suspended in water. This material is whipped with air to form foam, which is then heated to produce foam rubber, or latex. There are two types - NR, i.e. natural rubber, and SBR (styrene butadiene rubber), i.e. man made latex. All latex is either a combination of the two or 100% natural latex.
The Talalay method produces the best latex that is available today. It is worth mentioning that Talalay products contain no fillers or extenders unlike many other rival methods. Talalay latex eliminates pinches and pains that get in the way of a good night’s sleep. It reduces high-pressure areas that can shut off capillary blood flow and cause a person to toss and turn throughout the night. Latex mattresses alleviate pressure and bring oxygen and nutrients to muscles to provide a deeper, more restful and refreshing sleep.
We carry mattresses from many top brands like Serta, Tempur-Pedic, KingKoil, Lady Americana and Spring Air. Each of these brands has something unique to offer in their mattress collections.
